This watercolour was painted en plein air, directly in front of the landscape. I was drawn to a large stone at the water’s edge — warm, ochre and orange, almost glowing against the cool blue of the water. Around it are shifting reflections, transparent shadows, a distant shoreline and soft hills fading into the horizon. Painting outdoors always brings a sense of immediacy. The light changes, the water never stays still, and there is little time to overthink a decision. I wanted to preserve that first impression and let watercolour do what it does best — remain transparent, fluid and alive. In this small painting, I tried to capture a simple moment: cool water and a stone warmed by the sun.
