The old window now sits almost level with the street. Over the years, the asphalt has risen around the house and reached the lower part of the frame, making the window appear to have grown into it. Carved wood, worn paint, and the hard surface of the road merge into one plane as the house gradually becomes part of the city that has grown around it. Muted blue-grey and ochre tones convey the weathered surface of the old façade. Transparent washes, dry brushwork, and areas of untouched paper create the impression of a rough surface marked by time. Layers of colour bring the wood, wall, and asphalt together into a single space. “Window Rooted in Asphalt” belongs to the “Someone’s Windows” series, devoted to the windows of abandoned and inhabited houses. Here, the passage of time is visible not only in the ageing wood but also in the rising street, which is slowly absorbing the old house. This small watercolour will complement a contemporary or intimate interior and can also become part of a gallery wall.
