Once, this window separated a room from the garden. Now the house has no roof, branches rise above its walls, and light passes freely through the empty opening. Human presence has long since vanished, yet the window remains—a boundary preserving the memory of someone who once lived here. Deep brown and violet tones create a dense, almost twilight-filled space. Against them, the untouched white of the paper becomes both sky and light entering the abandoned house. Fluid washes and expressive lines emphasise the fragility of the old walls and the tangled movement of the branches. “House Open to the Sky” is the first painting in my new series, “Someone’s Windows,” devoted to the windows of abandoned and inhabited houses. This watercolour will complement a contemporary, minimalist, or intimate interior, becoming a quiet reminder of time, memory, and the beauty of what is passing away.
